The office of the Data Protection Commissioner has released a guide for businesses regarding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).   The GDPR places emphasis on transparency and security of data held by European organisations, while simultaneously empowering citizens and standardising data privacy rights.  While those organisations who have structures in place covering data protection, there is still work to do before they can achieve full GDPR compliance as this new regulation introduces enhancements which will require organisations to implement a full review.

Regardless of the significant unknowns relating to the direction that the UK is taking regarding Brexit, the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation, will still be felt across Europe, including the UK.  It is vital for organisations to prepare for GDPR which has already been passed into law, so that they are confident in the knowledge that they are compliant in advance of penalties coming into force.
